Our July 1st downtown history walk returns for 2023! This “off Main Street” version of the walk focuses on the history of the businesses and residences on the “side streets” and avenues of downtown: Queen Street, Alfred Avenue, Broadway Avenue, and First Avenue. The walk will also discuss the 100th anniversary of the 1923 Chinese Immigration (Exclusion) Act, and its impact on local community members.
The walk begins at 10am and will run for approximately 1.5 hours. Meet at the Bulkley Valley Credit Union (3894 First Avenue). Parking is available in the BVCU lot and on First Avenue.
This is a FREE event! Donations in support of this and other museum activities and events are welcome.
Please note that washrooms are not available during the walk (although participants are welcome to walk to the Portland Loo at the corner of Main and Second Avenue as needed). We encourage all participants to bring bottled water, wear comfortable walking shoes, and to dress for the weather. Leashed dog friends are welcome!
Please note that in the event of considerable rainfall the event may be cancelled. If this occurs, a message will be posted on the Museum’s Facebook page on the day of the walk, and signage will be posted on at the BV Credit Union.
