Share your family’s holiday and cultural traditions!
From November 24-December 20 2025 the BV Museum will host a community exhibition called “Smithers Celebrates”, and we need YOUR help!
We are asking the community to loan ornaments, heirlooms, photographs and more that showcase their family’s culture and traditions. Examples of items we would like to showcase could include a cherished Christmas tree ornament, the family menorah, a Vesak lantern, a winter solstice wreath, or a diya used for Diwali. We envision the museum’s exhibit space full of unique, memorable and special items that help showcase the diversity of traditions celebrated by our local community.
What will be displayed?
We are looking for items, photographs, audio or video recordings – whatever you can share that helps to showcase the cultural festival or celebration that is part of your family tradition. Each item will share the family name, the tradition or culture it comes from, and why it is special or important to your family and culture.
We ask that only one item per family be submitted. We are interested in December holidays such as Christmas, Advent, Solstice, Hanukah and Kwanzaa, as well as other holidays, festivals, and cultural traditions from other times of the calendar year, including Diwali, Holi, Vesak, Vaisakhi, Eid al-Fitr, and Eid al-Adha. For Christmas, we are particularly interested in examples showcasing Christmas celebrations from around the world.
Where will items be displayed?
In the Bulkley Valley Museum.
